Roller coaster vs. Merry go round

Hi, I'm Laurie - First time blogger, long time reader.

Right now, the best me can best be described by a scene from the Steve Martin movie, Parenthood.

Steve’s wife has just revealed that she is pregnant with their fourth baby. He is freaking out. His grandmother interjects with a story about riding a roller coaster when she was little. What thrilled her was it’s ability to elicit excitement, fear, thrill, and sickness, all at the same time. Some of her friends just wanted to ride the merry go round. That just goes around...does nothing.

After a particularly topsy-turvy time in my life, a merry go round sounded great. But, if I wouldn’t have embraced the roller coaster, for one thing, I wouldn’t be at Willow, and that would be a shame.

So, when things aren’t going as smoothly as I like, I try to remember that you get more out of the roller coaster.

That's what I've got for now friends.

Hi Laurie,
My name is Lisa (lulu) and my friendship with the incredible women you are now friends with began at Willow almost 13 years ago. I have always believed Willow to be a magical place. I appreciate your analogy and I too believe we definitely get much more out of the roller coaster and deep down, I know I prefer the roller coaster- at least most of the time. What grade do you teach? How many children do you have? what are their names?ages? What is a unique quality of each? How long have you been teaching? Are you going on vacation this summer?
Glad to be blogging with you.

Hi Lulu,
You are so sweet to ask. I teach first grade and love it. My husband and I don't have kids, but I will share a unique quality about him and our dog Ricky. Ricky is obsessive about soft, cylinder shaped toys, which he treats more as security blankets. If my husband and I are in different rooms, he strategically places them between us. Chivalry is alive and well in my husband. He never misses opening a door. Even if I am driving, he lets me in first. It is really quite sweet and I make sure to thank him, so that I don't take the gesture for granted.

What grade/grades did you teach? How old is Stella?
